About Us
Hillsboro Municipal Water Department delivers surface water sourced from natural water bodies and reservoirs. Since 1940, the upper-Tualatin River has served as the city's primary winter water source. The Tualatin originates in Washington County's Tillamook State Forest and flows 83 miles to join the Willamette River near West Linn in Clackamas County.
During summer months, when river levels drop too low for municipal use, Hillsboro residents rely on stored water from two key reservoirs:
- Barney Reservoir: Located 1,640 feet above sea level in the Trask River Watershed, storing 20,000 acre-feet of water
- Scoggins Reservoir (Hagg Lake): Covers 1,132 acres and holds approximately 59,950 acre-feet when at capacity
