Annual Municipal Water Quality Report

We're pleased to present our Annual Water Quality Report. This document is designed to inform residents about the quality of water and services we deliver daily. Our ongoing mission is to provide you with safe, reliable water. We want you to understand our efforts to continuously improve water treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources.

Our water comes from groundwater wells drawing from the Floridan and Biscayne Aquifers. The City of Hollywood regularly monitors for contaminants according to Federal and State regulations. Unless otherwise noted, this report presents findings from January 1 to December 31, 2017, using the most recent testing data available.

We encourage residents to stay informed about their water utility. For questions about this report, your water quality, or to request additional test results, please contact the Department of Public Utilities Water Quality Division at 954.921.3414.

Understanding Your Water Quality Report

The City of Hollywood conducts over 70 daily tests to monitor water quality and more than 160 additional monthly tests on samples collected throughout the City. In total, over 28,000 tests are performed yearly to ensure your water is safe.

Florida regulations allow monitoring for certain contaminants less than once per year since concentrations don't change frequently. Some data, while representative, may be more than a year old. Many other compounds were tested but found below detectable levels.

Special Health Considerations

To ensure tap water safety, the EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. FDA regulations set similar limits for bottled water to provide equivalent public health protection.

If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While Hollywood provides high-quality water, we cannot control the materials used in plumbing components. When water sits unused for several hours, minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If concerned, you may have your water tested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and exposure reduction steps is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Immunocompromised individuals—including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly, and infants—may be particularly vulnerable to certain water contaminants. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800.426.4791).
