Idaho Water Utility Companies

We're pleased to confirm that our municipal water quality meets or exceeds all federal and state standards. Throughout the past year, we conducted comprehensive testing for various contaminants including nitrates, pesticides, fuels, microbial agents, and disinfection byproducts.

Our mission is to provide you with clean, reliable drinking water every day. We continuously work to improve our treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources, which are essential for our community's future.

Our water comes from groundwater wells. As water percolates through soil and rock, it naturally dissolves minerals and, in some cases, can pick up substances from animal presence or human activities. Potential contaminants in source water include:

  • Microbial contaminants from septic systems, livestock operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants including naturally-occurring metals and salts
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agricultural operations and residential use
  • Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes and petroleum production
  • Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from mining activities

The City of Kuna maintains a Drinking Water Source Protection Plan designed to safeguard our water supply. Our system uses eight groundwater wells drawing from the western Snake River Plain aquifer. The protection plan identifies potential contaminant sources and outlines strategies to protect our drinking water.

Based on our Source Water Assessment (DEQ, 2000), potential risks in our protection area include agricultural chemicals, household hazardous waste, cleaning solvents, home heating fuel systems, and chemicals from private septic systems. A significant concern is the rising nitrate levels from septic systems and agricultural activities.

Our protection strategies include distributing educational materials to residents and businesses. For a complete copy of this report, please visit our office. For questions, contact us at (208) 922-5546.

Idaho State Rules for Drinking Water Systems prohibit connections between distribution systems and any equipment that could discharge contaminants into the public water system. All homes using potable water for landscape irrigation systems must have backflow prevention devices installed and inspected annually. Non-compliance may result in service interruption. For more information, please call (208) 922-5546.
