Meridian Water Department
About Us
Groundwater requiring treatment is extracted and directed into pressurized treatment vessels where it undergoes specialized filtration. This process effectively removes iron and manganese compounds responsible for brown water discoloration. After filtration, the water is properly disinfected before being distributed to homes throughout Meridian.
The City continues researching alternative treatment methods to enhance capabilities and deliver optimal water quality from all source wells. These comprehensive studies and construction of advanced treatment facilities require significant time and resources to implement properly.
We're committed to completing water treatment enhancement projects for existing wells by 2023, including three additional treatment facilities serving southern Meridian neighborhoods. As these facilities come online, we're already observing substantial improvements in iron and manganese removal, resulting in fewer brown water incidents citywide. We appreciate your continued patience as we work diligently to improve your household water quality.
