The Environmental Protection Agency mandates that public municipal suppliers serving the same population year-round (community water systems) provide consumer confidence reports to their customers. These reports are known as annual municipal water quality reports.

These documents summarize information about water sources, detected contaminants, compliance status, and educational materials. Denver's water originates from high-quality mountain snow runoff that feeds rivers, lakes, streams, and reservoirs. The supply is 100% surface water from a watershed covering 4,000 square miles on both sides of the Continental Divide.

Mountain water resources include the South Platte River and its tributaries, streams feeding Dillon Reservoir, and waterways along the Fraser River. Water is stored in five mountain reservoirs: Antero, Eleven Mile Canyon, Cheesman, Dillon and Gross. From these locations, water travels to treatment facilities via a complex network of tunnels, canals and pipes.

After treatment, water moves through gravity and pump systems to underground clear-water reservoirs before reaching homes and businesses. The distribution network includes over 3,000 miles of piping throughout Denver Water's service area.

The state health department has completed a source water assessment evaluating potential contamination risks to Denver Water's terminal reservoirs at Strontia Springs, Marston and Ralston. Potential contamination sources include EPA Areas of Concern, wastewater discharge sites, storage tanks, mines, industrial facilities, residential areas, recreational lands, quarries, agricultural operations, forests, septic systems, oil/gas wells and roadways.

What is the Public Information Act?

The Public Information Act (formerly known as the Open Records Act) is located in Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code. This Act provides citizens with a method to inspect or copy government records.

How do I request public records?

Requests must be in writing and addressed to the City of Brenham. The Public Information Act specifies that written requests activate a governmental body's responsibilities under the law. Submit public information requests through:

What should I include in my public information request?

While referencing the Public Information Act isn't necessary, make your request as clear and specific as possible to help the City identify exactly what information you're seeking.

How quickly will the City respond?

The Act requires the City to respond "promptly." If unable to provide the requested information within ten business days, the public records officer must send written notification explaining the delay and setting a date when the information will be available.

Will I be charged for copies?

The Act allows for reasonable fees for copies and access to public records, calculated according to Texas Attorney General guidelines. For responses exceeding 400 pages, the City will send a cost estimate that must be paid before processing. Larger requests may incur personnel costs ($15.00 per hour) for gathering, copying, and redacting information.

What information will be redacted or withheld?

Information routinely redacted includes: Direct Deposit Forms, I-9 Forms, W-2 and W-4 Forms, Law Enforcement Declarations, Military Records, Fingerprints, Closed Meeting Records, Public Email Addresses, Social Security Numbers, Motor Vehicle Records, Financial Account Numbers, and Family Violence Shelter Information.

How can I appeal if information is withheld?

To appeal redacted or withheld information, send a signed written statement to the Attorney General indicating your wish to appeal, identifying the governmental body that withheld information, the date of your original request, and a copy or description of your original request.
