Oregon Water Utility Companies

The Lebanon Public Water System has successfully met all Ohio EPA standards. Our city has prepared this comprehensive report to inform residents about the quality of our water supply. This document includes essential health information, detailed water quality test results, and contact information for our water system.

In 2017, your municipal water met all Kansas EPA requirements. The City of Lebanon and Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) maintain unconditional licenses to operate our water systems, issued by Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA). Both entities complied with all state municipal water regulations throughout 2017.

The City of Lebanon purchases its treated water from GCWW. This water comes from two sources: the Ohio River (surface water) and the Bolton Well Field in the Great Miami Aquifer (groundwater). Surface water undergoes treatment at the Richard Miller Treatment Plant, while groundwater is processed at the Bolton Treatment Plant.

Water quality and safety are our top priorities. GCWW conducts approximately 600 tests daily during treatment and delivery, with additional quality testing performed by the Lebanon Water Department. The Miller Treatment Plant employs multiple purification methods including pre-settling, final settling, and filtration followed by granular activated carbon (GAC) filtration to remove organic compounds. Final treatment includes pH adjustment, chlorine and UV disinfection, plus fluoride addition for dental health.

The Bolton Plant uses lime treatment, settling and filtration before disinfection and fluoride addition. For questions about GCWW's treatment process, call (513) 591-7700 or view their consumer confidence report at http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/water/about-greater-Cincinnati-water-works/water-quality-reports/2017-water quality-report-updated-march-2018/

Lebanon maintains emergency backup connections with Warren County and Western Water systems, though no water was received from these sources in 2017. Their consumer confidence reports are available at http://www.warrenwater.com/wq-Water_Quality and http://www.western-h2o.com

Sources of Contaminants in Water Supplies

Municipal and bottled water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.

Potential contaminants include:

  • Microbial contaminants (viruses, bacteria) from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants (salts, metals) from natural sources or urban runoff, wastewater discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential use
  • Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
  • Radioactive contaminants from natural sources or from oil/gas production and mining activities
