Suburban East Salem Water District operates as a local government entity managing a residential water system. The District provides service to approximately 13,500 residents in the Four Corners area near State St and Lancaster Drive NE.
The District boundaries extend from I-5 on the west to Cordon Road on the east, and from Center St on the north to Highway 22 (Mission St) on the south within Marion County, Oregon. A five-member elected Board of Commissioners governs the District, holding monthly public meetings open to all residents.
District staff responsibilities include installation, repair and maintenance of water mains, services and meters; meter reading; bill preparation and mailing; and collection services. As a community-owned utility, the system operates on a cost-recovery basis rather than for profit.
The District has supplied water since its establishment in 1956, purchasing water from the City of Salem. The primary source is the Santiam River, with fluoridation (0.8 mg/l) and chlorination (0.9 mg/l) treatment. We welcome suggestions for improving our system and services.
MISSION STATEMENT: "Our mission is to provide safe potable water in adequate supply at a reasonable and fair cost to the people and property served, while protecting the capital assets of the District."
