About Us
Lead can enter tap water through corrosion in service pipes, fixtures, and plumbing components containing lead, particularly in areas with acidic or low-mineral content water. Brass and chrome-plated fixtures with lead solder are common sources where significant lead can leach into water supplies.
To address lead and copper contamination, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established the Lead and Copper Rule under the Safe Municipal Water Act of 1974. The City of Pleasanton regularly tests between 30-60 single-family homes built between 1982-1986 every three years to comply with EPA regulations.
Pleasanton's water comes from two main sources:
- Approximately 80% is purchased from Zone 7 Water Agency (treated surface water mixed with some groundwater)
- The remaining 20% comes from local groundwater pumped from city-owned wells
Most water sources undergo disinfection and fluoridation before delivery to consumers. The State Water Project (SWP) delivers water to Zone 7, originating from the Feather River watershed and flowing through the Sacramento River/San Joaquin Delta.
The City of Pleasanton's water quality goal is to provide reliable, high-quality municipal water to all customers. Zone 7's two local water treatment plants continuously monitor treated surface water, performing chemical and biological tests every four hours. Additionally, the City maintains 48 sampling points throughout the distribution system for daily, weekly, and monthly testing.
Residents should note that chloramine (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) is used as a disinfectant in both Zone 7 and City water supplies. While safe for general consumption, aquarium owners and home dialysis patients must take special precautions before using chloraminated water.
Important Health Information: Immunocompromised individuals, including those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, the elderly, and infants may be more vulnerable to certain contaminants. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding their municipal water consumption.

Known as the home of "Live Oaks and Friendly Folks," Pleasanton is a charming community in South Texas. Located in Atascosa County just 30 miles south of San Antonio on U.S. Highway 281, the city enjoys a mild climate with average temperatures of 70 degrees and annual rainfall of 26 inches. The current population stands at 8,266 residents.
Pleasanton's history dates back to 1858 when it was established at the junction of the Atascosa River and Bonita Creek. The settlement was chosen as the county seat of Atascosa County after the previous seat at Amphion was relocated due to conflicts with indigenous populations. John Bowen, San Antonio's first Anglo-American postmaster, founded and named the town after his friend and fellow Texas settler John Pleasants.
Recognized as the "Birthplace of the Cowboy," Pleasanton saw a growing community of cowboys in the 19th century, partly as protection against raids. In 1910, the county seat was moved to Jourdanton, and Pleasanton was officially incorporated in 1917.
