About Us
Is your tap water safe? Yes, our water meets all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) health standards. During 2017, we conducted tests for over 50 potential contaminants found in municipal water supplies. The table on the following page shows the substances detected between January 1 and December 31, 2017, all within safe levels.
For a complete list of all substances we test for, please contact us at (865) 882-3242. To ensure tap water safety, the EPA and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation establish regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. FDA regulations similarly restrict contaminants in bottled water to provide equal public health protection.
Where does your water come from? Our water is sourced from the Emory River, a surface water supply in Morgan and Roane counties. The Emory River Watershed encompasses portions of Bledsoe, Cumberland, Fentress, Morgan, and Roane counties. A watershed represents the entire land area that ultimately drains into a specific watercourse or body of water.
We work diligently to protect our water from contaminants and collaborate with the State to assess the vulnerability of our water source to potential pollutants. TDEC has prepared a Source Water Assessment Report for bodies of water supplying municipal systems. Water sources receive high, moderate, or low susceptibility ratings based on the likelihood and nature of contaminants from potential sources and activities in areas hydrologically upstream from the raw water source. Our Water Supply was rated as moderately susceptible.
To ensure safe municipal water, all public systems treat and regularly test their water. Information about Tennessee's Source Water Assessment Program, including the Source Water Assessment Report, susceptibility ratings, and the comprehensive TDEC report submitted to EPA, is available online at https://www.tn.gov/environment/program-areas/wrwater-resources/water-quality/source-water-assessment.html or by contacting us for specific assessment copies.

Why are there contaminants in my water? Municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800-426-4791).
Water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water flows over land surfaces or underground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
