About Us
We are pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) as required by the Safe Municipal Water Act (SDWA). This report provides information about your water source, what it contains, and how it compares to standards set by regulatory agencies.
Some individuals may be more susceptible to contaminants in municipal water than the general population. People with compromised immune systems, such as those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, elderly persons, and infants can be particularly vulnerable to infections. These individuals should seek advice about municipal water from healthcare providers.
Where does my water come from?
Jenks purchases all water from the City of Tulsa, which draws from three lakes: Oolagah, Spavinaw, and Hudson. This water undergoes treatment at Tulsa's Jewell Water Treatment Plant before distribution.
Why are there contaminants in my tap water?
All municipal water, including bottled varieties, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Municipal water sources (lakes, rivers, streams, reservoirs, springs) naturally dissolve minerals and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
Potential contaminant sources include:
- Microbial contaminants from sewage facilities, septic systems, and agricultural operations
- Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals from urban runoff or industrial discharges
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture and residential usage
- Organic chemicals from industrial processes and petroleum production
- Radioactive materials that may occur naturally or result from mining activities
How can I get involved?
City Council meetings occur on the first and third Monday monthly at City Hall, 211 North Elm Street.
Water Conservation Tips
The average U.S. household uses approximately 400 gallons daily. Consider these simple conservation methods:
- Take brief showers (5 minutes uses 4-5 gallons versus 50 gallons for a bath)
- Turn off water while brushing teeth, washing hair, or shaving
- Install water-efficient showerheads to save up to 750 gallons monthly
- Only run full loads in washing machines and dishwashers
- Water plants only when necessary
- Fix leaky fixtures promptly
- Schedule irrigation during cooler hours to reduce evaporation
- Educate children about water conservation
Visit www.epa.gov/watersense for additional conservation information.
