About Us
Knox-Chapman is committed to providing affordable water that meets all municipal water standards. This report summarizes the water quality delivered to customers throughout 2017 and reflects the dedication of our staff to provide the highest quality water possible.
Your water comes from surface water sourced from the French Broad Lake. Our priority is protecting this water source from potential contamination, and we collaborate with state authorities to assess vulnerability risks. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has prepared a Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) Report that rates Knox-Chapman's water source as moderately susceptible to potential contamination based on geological factors and human activities near the water source.
You may notice white particles (sometimes blue or green) in your water that clog sink aerators and shower heads. Research indicates these come from certain water heater fill tanks made of plastic that degrade over time, especially at temperatures above 130 degrees Fahrenheit. These floating particles break into a chalky powder when rubbed between fingers. If you experience this issue, contact your water heater supplier.
Regarding lead concerns: When present in elevated levels, lead can cause serious health problems, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water typically comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing components. We sampled 30 high-risk homes and found 3 exceeded Lead Action Levels, while none exceeded Copper Action Levels. To minimize potential lead exposure, run your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking, especially after water has been sitting for several hours.

The Knox Chapman Utility District covers approximately 60 square miles across eastern Tennessee, spanning portions of Knox, Blount, and Sevier counties. It borders Knoxville and is situated between Knoxville, Maryville, Alcoa, and Sevierville. The district's region is influenced by several natural and urban features including the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Douglas and Loudon Lakes, and the Tennessee Valley Authority Lakes, which serve both as raw water sources and attractions for industrial development.
Knox Chapman Utility District (KCUD) was officially incorporated as a municipal enterprise on April 20, 1955, through a declaration established in the County Court of Knox County, Tennessee. This incorporation followed provisions of the District Act, which ensures that such municipal corporations exist in perpetuity and possess the powers designated within the District Act.
