About Us
This year, your tap water was monitored for compliance with USEPA and state water health standards. We, along with our bulk water supplier, carefully safeguard our water supply, and we're pleased to report that the O'Fallon Water system had no violations of contaminant levels or other water quality standards during the past year.
This report outlines the quality of water we provided, including details about water sources, composition, and how it compares to regulatory standards. We're committed to keeping you informed because educated consumers are our greatest allies.
If you have questions about this report or concerns about our water system, please contact Heide Bell at the O'Fallon Public Works Department: 618-624-4500, ext. 3. We welcome interested customers to attend our regularly scheduled Public Works Committee meetings at the Public Safety Building, typically held on the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 PM.
Our treated water comes from Illinois-American Water Company (IAWC). Their Eastern St. Louis Treatment Plant draws and treats surface water from the Mississippi River. This source can be influenced by agricultural, municipal, and industrial activities, with farm chemicals occasionally showing seasonal increases. However, comprehensive monitoring and treatment ensure high-quality finished water regardless of source water variations.
The Illinois EPA considers all surface water sources for community supply potentially susceptible to contamination, which is why treatment of Illinois surface water supplies is mandatory. Required processes include coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.
Within the Illinois portion of the Mississippi River Watershed, various commodities including manufactured goods, petrochemicals, and pesticides are transported along the river system. Their production, storage, and transportation are significant concerns, especially near water intakes. Agricultural runoff within the Illinois Mississippi River Basin also contributes to contaminant susceptibility at the IAWC-East St. Louis intakes.
Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems (cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly persons, and infants) should seek advice from healthcare providers about drinking water. USEPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available from the USEPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).
