About Us
What is a Water Quality Report? Illinois American Water publishes an annual document outlining your tap water quality in accordance with state and United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) regulations. This report aims to enhance understanding of water quality standards and raise awareness about protecting vital water resources.
At our state-of-the-art laboratory in Belleville, Illinois, we conduct thousands of tests annually, monitoring water quality throughout the treatment and distribution process. In 2017, we tested for hundreds of potential contaminants, including those with federal and state maximum allowable levels. This overview presents the past year's water quality results and details about your water composition.
Source Water Information: Lincoln District draws its water from the Mahomet Teays Valley Aquifer through several wells. An aquifer is a water-saturated underground formation such as sand or gravel. Due to agricultural activity in the region, the herbicide atrazine occasionally occurs at levels well below the maximum contaminant level (MCL), with regular monitoring ensuring levels remain low.
The community's source water is susceptible to IOC, VOC, and SOC contamination, though no quantifiable levels of VOCs were detected in finished water. This determination is based on potential contamination sources, agricultural and non-agricultural land use in well recharge areas. Through collaborative efforts between the water company, Lincoln City, and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), protective "setback zones" of 1,000 feet around wells have been established through local zoning ordinances.
Environmental Stewardship: Water is one of our planet's most precious resources. Our environmental protection efforts include student education programs, community event participation, environmental partnerships, and internal sustainability initiatives.
