About Us
To ensure tap water safety, the EPA establishes limits on contaminant levels in public water systems. The information below lists contaminants detected during our reporting period. While additional substances were tested, only those listed were found in your water supply.
All water sources naturally contain some contaminants. At low concentrations, these substances typically don't pose health risks. Complete removal of all impurities would be prohibitively expensive and often unnecessary for public health protection. Some minerals naturally present can actually improve taste and provide beneficial nutrients when present at appropriate levels.
Unless noted otherwise, the data presented comes from tests conducted during this reporting period. EPA or State regulations require monitoring for certain contaminants less than annually since concentrations don't significantly change year-to-year, or when systems aren't vulnerable to particular contamination types.
Special Precautions: Certain individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly individuals, and infants—may face higher infection risks. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding water consumption. Guidelines from EPA/CDC on reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
Lead Information: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health issues, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water primarily comes from materials in service lines and household plumbing. While Pella Water Works Department provides quality water, we cannot control materials used in plumbing components. If water has been sitting for several hours, minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. For concerns about lead, consider water testing. Information on lead in water, testing methods, and exposure reduction is available via the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
Cross-Connection Control: This assessment identifies potential cross-connections in your home or business—unprotected or improper connections that could allow contaminants to enter the public water system. If you have boilers, sprinkler systems, pools, hot tubs, additional water sources, or decorative ponds, please contact us to discuss proper isolation. Even with backflow preventers installed, annual testing and reporting to the City is required.
