The water system utilizes groundwater from four well sites operated by the Chinquapin Water Association and acquired by the Maple Hill Water & Sewer District. The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources conducts Source Water Assessment Program evaluations to determine susceptibility to Potential Contaminant Sources. These assessments include maps, background information, and vulnerability ratings of Higher, Moderate, or Lower based on contaminant scores and inherent vulnerability characteristics of the water source.

3. What options do I have to reduce my water bill? The Town offers various exemptions for Elderly residents, Disabled Veterans, Blind Persons, Surviving Spouses, Orphaned Minor Children, and Tax Deferral programs.
4. What if my abatement request is denied but I still believe my assessment is incorrect? You may schedule an appointment with the Assessors to discuss the denial reason or appeal to the State Appellate Tax Board within three months of the Assessors' decision.
5. When should I file for an overassessment abatement? Applications must be filed within 30 days of receiving your "actual tax bill" (typically issued late December). The deadline is generally February 1, as noted on your bill. Assessors have 3 months to process your application.
