Plymouth Water Department

We are pleased to report that the water quality delivered through your Plymouth Water Department consistently meets or exceeds all State and Federal standards. The City of Plymouth draws water from deep groundwater wells, which naturally contains significant amounts of Iron and Manganese. Our treatment facilities are specifically designed to remove these minerals through oxidation (converting Iron and Manganese into filterable particles) and filtration processes.

For your health protection, we add Fluoride to support dental health and Chlorine for disinfection purposes. Our staff conducts daily monitoring of Iron, Manganese, Fluoride, and Chlorine levels at our treatment plants, with additional daily testing throughout the distribution system to ensure proper Chlorine levels. All results are submitted to IDEM monthly.

Water is our most precious natural resource. Protecting our groundwater, streams, lakes, and rivers from contamination is everyone's responsibility. We encourage public engagement in our community's water-related decisions. The Board of Works and Safety meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at City Council Chambers, 124 N. Michigan St. (Garro St. Entrance) at 6:00 pm. The public is always welcome to attend.

Regarding Lead and Copper: Action Level Goal (ALG) represents the contaminant level in municipal water below which no known health risks exist, allowing for a safety margin. Action Level refers to contaminant concentrations that, when exceeded, trigger required treatment protocols for water systems. Elevated lead levels can pose serious health concerns, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in tap water primarily comes from materials in service lines and household plumbing. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control the materials used in plumbing components. To minimize potential lead exposure, run your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption if it has been sitting unused for several hours. If concerned, you may have your water tested. The EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems, while the FDA regulates bottled water with equivalent public health protection standards. All municipal water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain small amounts of some contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate health risks. Immunocompromised individuals, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, those with HIV/AIDS or immune disorders, some elderly, and infants may be particularly vulnerable to infections and should seek advice from healthcare providers. Our Watershed Protection Efforts include community education initiatives to promote proper waste disposal practices that protect our water sources. We collaborate with neighboring communities and watershed organizations to educate residents on preserving water safety.

Drop Box Payments: Customer drop boxes for checks and cash are located at our treatment facility entrance on 3 Marina Side Drive and at Queen's Folly Road in Palmetto Dunes near the tennis courts and mailboxes. Boxes are checked daily during business hours. For cash payments, any excess amount will be credited to your account as we cannot provide change.

RENTAL ACCOUNTS: Tenants can apply for service at our office Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by printing the "Rental Application for Water and Sewer" form from our Documents/Forms page and faxing it to us. Tenants must pay a refundable $100.00 deposit before water service can be established in their name. If no balance remains when the account is closed, the deposit will be returned by mail.
