Quality First We are proud to present our annual municipal water quality report covering all testing conducted between January 1 and December 31, 2010. As in previous years, we remain committed to delivering the highest quality municipal water possible. We continue to meet the challenges of new regulations, source water protection, water conservation, and community outreach while serving the needs of all water users. Thank you for allowing us to provide you and your family with clean, quality municipal water.

Important Health Information Some individuals may be more vulnerable to contaminants in municipal water than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—such as those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, those with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly persons, and infants—may face increased infection risks. These individuals should consult healthcare providers about their water consumption. Guidelines from the U.S. EPA/CDC on reducing Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminant infection risks are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

Potential Water Contaminants To ensure tap water safety, the EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. FDA regulations set similar limits for bottled water. All water sources—including tap and bottled water—naturally contain small amounts of certain substances. The presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.

Water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and substances from animal or human activity. Potential contaminants include:

  • Microbial Contaminants: viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, livestock operations, or wildlife
  • Inorganic Contaminants: salts and metals occurring naturally or from urban runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
  • Pesticides and Herbicides: from various sources including agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
  • Organic Chemical Contaminants: synthetic and volatile organics from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, or septic systems
  • Radioactive Contaminants: naturally occurring or from oil/gas production and mining

Water Source Information Pueblo del Sol Water Company relies on groundwater pumped from four wells located in the Sierra Vista Sub-Basin of the Upper San Pedro Basin. This intermountain valley covers approximately 1,875 square miles, bounded by mountain ranges on all sides. Our wells are strategically positioned throughout the service area to ensure reliable water delivery.

Water Storage and Distribution We maintain two reservoir facilities: Tank #1 on Shawnee Drive and Tank #2 on Cherokee and Kachina. These facilities help ensure consistent water pressure and emergency reserves for our community.

Plumbing and Water Quality Green or blue-green stains on fixtures often result from copper dissolving in your home's plumbing when water sits overnight. Regular use of taps typically prevents copper staining. Lowering your water heater temperature (maximum 120°F) can reduce staining while saving energy. For drinking and cooking, running water for 1-2 minutes after long periods of non-use can significantly reduce copper levels.
