Arizona Water Company - Overgaard
About Us
Arizona Water Company provides groundwater to Overgaard residents from wells strategically located throughout the region. All water sampling is conducted by state-certified Arizona Water Company personnel. Independent state-certified laboratories analyze these samples, with results forwarded directly to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
The water supplied meets all federal and state safety standards. While your water contains trace levels of arsenic, it remains within EPA's safe municipal water standards. The EPA balances current scientific understanding of arsenic's health effects against remediation costs. Research continues on low-level arsenic exposure, which at high concentrations is known to cause cancer and has been linked to circulatory issues and organ damage.
Arizona Water Company tests for over 90 additional substances beyond those listed in this report, with none detected in your water supply. Some constituents require less frequent monitoring as their concentrations rarely change. Therefore, while representative, some data may be more than one year old.
For questions about this water quality assessment, please contact Linda Lynde, Environmental Compliance Manager at Arizona Water Company: P.O. Box 29006, Phoenix, AZ 85038-9006, phone (602) 240-6860, or email@azwater.com.
In 2002, ADEQ completed a Resource Water Assessment of the Overgaard water system sources, reviewing adjacent land uses that might pose contamination risks. The result indicated a low risk to the water sources. The complete assessment is available for inspection at ADEQ offices in Phoenix between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Electronic copies can be requested via dml@azdeq.gov.
All water, including bottled varieties, may contain small amounts of various constituents. This doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Immunocompromised individuals (cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, elderly individuals, and infants) should seek specific advice from healthcare providers regarding water consumption.
Water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
Potential contaminants in source water include:
- Microbial contaminants like viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants such as salts and metals, either naturally occurring or from urban runoff, wastewater discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential usage
- Organic chemicals including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, runoff, and septic systems
- Radioactive materials that are naturally occurring or result from oil/gas production and mining
The EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems, while FDA regulations set similar standards for bottled water to ensure public health protection.
Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in municipal water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. While Arizona Water Company provides high-quality water, we cannot control the materials used in plumbing components. If your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize potential lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking.
