About Us
What will this report tell you? This document complies with state and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) water regulations and provides essential information about:
- Your water's source and origins
- Water protection measures
- Detailed analysis of water content
Please read and share this important information! Understanding your community's water is crucial, especially for those who may not receive this report directly. If you manage a property, business, educational institution or healthcare facility, please distribute this information to all water users.
About Your District
- EPCOR provides water service to approximately 44,000 connections in the Agua Fria district
- The service area covers portions of multiple West Valley communities in metropolitan Phoenix and master-planned developments in unincorporated Maricopa County
Water Sources
- Colorado River via the Central Arizona Project (CAP)
- Agua Fria river water collected at Lake Pleasant behind the new Waddell Dam
- Groundwater pumped from the West Salt River Valley (WSRV) Sub-Basin
CAP Water Information
CAP water primarily consists of Colorado River water transported from Lake Havasu through the CAP Canal and then via the Beardsley Canal to the White Tanks Water Treatment Facility.
White Tanks Treatment Process
The Agua Fria district receives treated, renewable surface water from this advanced facility, which employs cutting-edge treatment methods designed to meet current and future quality standards. Using renewable water sources is a critical step toward community sustainability, saving billions of gallons of Arizona's limited groundwater annually.

Epcor Water - Agua Fria Municipal Water Company and EPAWhat to Expect in Your Water
Municipal water sources – including tap water and bottled water – come from rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs and wells. As water travels across land or through ground layers, it can collect naturally occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive materials or substances from animal or human activity.
All municipal water, including bottled varieties, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of certain contaminants. The presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
Lead Information
EPCOR monitored water for lead and copper in 2016 at 30 representative homes throughout the community, meeting federal requirements. If your home was tested, you would have received the results. Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically enters municipal water through materials in service lines and home plumbing, not from the water utility's main lines.
To minimize potential exposure, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption when it has been sitting unused. If concerned about lead content, consider having your water tested. Information about lead testing and prevention is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
Seasonal Water Changes
Because your supply combines both surface and groundwater, you may notice seasonal variations in hardness and taste. These differences between surface and groundwater sources are normal and completely safe.
Home Water Treatment Units
Proper maintenance of home water treatment systems is essential for good water quality. If you've installed a water softener or reverse osmosis system, please follow the manufacturer's maintenance instructions. Contact your treatment system's manufacturer for specific guidance or assistance.
