Arizona Water Utility Companies

Arizona Water Company supplies groundwater to Pinal Valley customers from wells located throughout Casa Grande and Coolidge areas. All water samples are collected by state-certified employees and analyzed by independent Arizona laboratories with results forwarded to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).

The water provided by Arizona Water Company meets all federal and state safe water standards and regulations. While your water contains low levels of arsenic, it complies with EPA's safe water standard. The EPA continues researching potential health effects of low arsenic levels, which at high concentrations can cause cancer and is linked to skin damage and circulatory problems.

Important health information: Nitrate levels above 10 ppm pose health risks to infants under six months, potentially causing blue baby syndrome. Nitrate levels may rise rapidly after rainfall or agricultural activity. If caring for an infant, please consult your healthcare provider.

Arizona Water Company conducted monitoring for over 80 additional constituents beyond those reported here, with none detected in your water supply. Some constituents are monitored less frequently as their concentrations rarely change or are unlikely to be detected.

For questions about this report, please contact Regina Lynde, Environmental Compliance Manager at (602) 240-6860 or email Coolidge@AZwater.com.

In 2003-2004, ADEQ completed a Source Water Assessment of Arizona Water Company's Pinal Valley water system, determining the water sources had low risk. The complete Assessment is available at ADEQ offices or electronically by contacting dml@azdeq.gov.

Health advisory: Fluoride levels between 2-4 mg/l may cause cosmetic dental fluorosis (brown discoloration/pitting) in children under nine. Consider alternative water sources for young children. Your water's fluoride ranges from 0.1 to 3 mg/l. While below the 4 mg/l EPA standard that can increase bone disease risk, we're required to notify you when levels exceed 2 mg/l.

Some residents may be particularly vulnerable to water contaminants, including those with compromised immune systems, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, elderly individuals, and infants. These individuals should seek medical advice about their water consumption.

Water sources (tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity, including:

  • Microbial contaminants from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals, either naturally occurring or from urban runoff, industrial discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
  • Organic chemicals from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
  • Radioactive materials that occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining

The EPA regulates tap water contaminant levels, while FDA regulations establish similar limits for bottled water to ensure public safety. Lead exposure from plumbing is a particular concern for pregnant women and young children. While Arizona Water Company provides high-quality water, it cannot control materials used in home plumbing. If your water has been sitting for several hours, minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for cooking or drinking.
