We're proud to present this year's Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document aims to inform you about the quality of water and services we deliver to your home daily. Our mission is to provide you with safe, reliable municipal water, and we want you to understand and participate in our ongoing efforts to improve water treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources.

Our Water Source
Your tap water comes from Lake Lago and Middle Fork Saline River. Like all surface water sources (including rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, and reservoirs), these bodies can be vulnerable to various contamination risks.

Water Source Assessment
The Arkansas Department of Health has completed a comprehensive Source Water Vulnerability Assessment for our system. According to their evaluation criteria, our water source has been classified as having a high susceptibility to potential contamination. You can request a detailed summary of this assessment from our office.

Potential Contaminants
As water flows over land or through underground layers, it can pick up various substances including:

  • Microbial contaminants from sewage facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals that may occur naturally or result from urban runoff or industrial processes
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban drainage, and residential uses
  • Organic chemicals from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
  • Naturally occurring radioactive materials or byproducts of energy production

Health Considerations
All municipal water, including bottled varieties, may contain trace amounts of contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. However, certain populations—including people undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, elderly residents, and infants—may be more vulnerable to waterborne contaminants. These individuals should seek specific guidance from healthcare providers regarding their water consumption.

Lead in Drinking Water
If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically enters water from plumbing materials and components. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control the materials used in home plumbing systems. To minimize potential lead exposure after water has been sitting in pipes for several hours, run your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using it for drinking or cooking.

Hot Springs Village Waterworks Municipal Water Report Information

Public Works oversees all water and wastewater services throughout Hot Springs Village. The Village's water treatment facility is located at Lake Lago, the community's primary water source, and maintains 24-hour staffing throughout the year. Maintenance teams regularly service water and wastewater infrastructure across the entire Village area.

The community is served by two wastewater treatment facilities - Mill Creek and Cedar Creek. Both plants operate under licenses and permits approved by the Environmental Protection Agency through the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. Weekly testing is conducted by an independent laboratory to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards.

In 2005, the Hot Springs Village Property Owners' Association implemented an innovative water conservation program, utilizing treated effluent from the Cedar Creek facility to irrigate Magellan and Isabella golf courses.

For water or wastewater emergencies, residents should contact the POA at 501-922-5524 during business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) or 501-922-1323 after hours.
