Grand Prairie Bayou 2 PWA Municipal Water Report Info

Historical Development
Grand Prairie Water Users Association formed in 1981, with system development occurring over five years. Water service began in October 1986, initially serving 600 residents in northeastern Lonoke County. From its modest beginnings with 2 groundwater wells and a half-million gallon daily treatment capacity, the system expanded significantly over 23 years to include 8 groundwater wells and three treatment facilities capable of processing 2.5 million gallons daily. Customer numbers grew from the initial 600 to 2,350 during this period.

System Evolution
The Bayou Two Water System emerged in 1987, originally intended as part of Grand Prairie but developed separately due to financing challenges. Grand Prairie provided management services to Bayou Two from 1994 to 2006. Bayou Two's customer base expanded from 350 to 1,550 users. In 2006, the systems merged to form Grand Prairie Bayou Two Public Facilities Board, serving approximately 3,900 customers. Previously, Bayou Two sourced water through Jacksonville Water, but post-merger, connecting lines eliminated this arrangement. Water rates between systems were harmonized by January 2010.

Future Planning
To ensure sustainable water supply, the organization has worked for over 16 years to develop the Lonoke/White project to deliver surface water from Greer's Ferry Lake. In 2012, the entity was renamed Grand Prairie Bayou Two Public Water Authority.

Current Water Sources
The system currently relies on 8 groundwater wells collectively providing 3,500 gallons per minute of freshwater for treatment. Future development plans include sourcing surface water from Greer's Ferry Lake through the Lonoke/White project.
