Arizona Water Company - Sedona
About Us
Arizona Water Company delivers groundwater to Sedona residents through wells strategically positioned throughout the Sedona region. All water samples are collected by Arizona Water Company staff and analyzed by independent state-certified laboratories, with results submitted directly to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
The municipal water provided meets all state and federal safety standards, though it does contain low levels of arsenic while still complying with EPA safety thresholds. The EPA continues researching potential health effects of low arsenic exposure, as this mineral is known to cause cancer at high concentrations and has been linked to skin damage and circulatory issues.
Note: Beyond the constituents listed in this report, Arizona Water Company tested for more than 80 additional substances, none of which were detected. The data presented reflects the most recent testing conducted according to applicable regulations.
In 2004, ADEQ completed a Source Water Assessment of Arizona Water Company's Sedona system. They evaluated adjacent land uses that might pose contamination risks. The assessment found a low risk for seven water sources and a high risk for one source due to nearby land use activities. Arizona Water Company conducts regular monitoring to ensure your water meets Safe Drinking Water Act standards.
The complete Assessment is available for inspection at ADEQ's Phoenix office. Electronic copies can be obtained by emailing dml@azdeq.gov. For more information, visit ADEQ's Source Water Assessment and Protection Unit webpage.
All water sources, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. This doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Immuno-compromised individuals, including those undergoing cancer treatment, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, the elderly, and young children may be particularly vulnerable to certain waterborne infections.
Sources of tap water include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity, including:
- Microbial contaminants from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals, which can occur naturally or result from urban runoff, industrial discharge, oil/gas production, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential use
- Organic chemicals from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, runoff, and septic systems
- Radiological materials that occur naturally or result from energy production activities
If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in tap water primarily comes from service line materials and home plumbing components. While Arizona Water Company provides high-quality water, they cannot control the materials used in household plumbing. When water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using it for drinking or cooking.
