What documents are required when applying for service? Along with your completed application, you'll need to provide your Social Security number and a copy of your driver's license or valid Texas ID.

Is a deposit required? Yes, a deposit is necessary to initiate service. NBU requires a two-month estimated billing deposit based on the average billing history for the location being applied for. For newly constructed homes, the deposit will be calculated using the square footage of the residence. Half of the deposit is due at application, with the remainder billed by NBU on your first monthly statement.

Can the deposit requirement be waived? NBU will waive the deposit if you've established acceptable credit history, including:

• At least 24 months of continuous service
• An NBU credit rating of "B" or better for the past 24 consecutive months
• Previous NBU customers returning within 365 days may use their prior credit history
• Existing NBU customers with "B" or better ratings can transfer service without a new deposit
• Submission of an approved Letter of Credit with no late payments in the last 12 months

Will I get my deposit back? The deposit will be held for at least 24 months and then refunded if the account maintains an NBU credit rating of "B" or better. Interest is calculated for security deposits based on United States Treasury Bills less 25 basis points (.25 percent). NOTE: If you leave NBU's service area before 24 months, the deposit will be applied to your final balance.
