About Us
The South Farmingdale Water District is proud to present this year's Water Quality Statement to our residents. This report fulfills Federal and State regulatory requirements and aims to keep you informed about your water quality and services.
Our primary goal remains providing safe, reliable water daily while continuously improving treatment processes and protecting water resources. The Board of Committee and district staff are fully committed to delivering the highest quality water to all families we serve.
Our water comes from eleven groundwater wells distributed throughout the community, drawing from the Magothy aquifer beneath Long Island. The aquifer generally provides good to excellent quality water, though some localized contamination exists.
All drinking water sources (whether tap or bottled) originate from streams, lakes, rivers, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land surfaces or through underground layers, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activities. Potential contaminants include microbial agents, inorganic compounds, pesticides, herbicides, organic chemicals, and radioactive materials.
