Florida Water Utility Companies

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) conducted a Resource Water Assessment of our system in 2017 to identify potential contamination sources near our wells. These potential sources include facilities and activities that might impact our groundwater aquifers or surface water supplies.

Many of these sources operate under strict FDEP regulations with extensive safety protocols. The assessment identified 22 potential contamination sources in our area, ranging from low to moderate concern levels. This information helps us develop strategies to reduce current risks and prevent future problems.

Our water quality standards are established by both the USEPA and FDEP, setting limits for substances that might affect health or aesthetic qualities of water. These standards include:

  • Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): The highest permitted level of a contaminant in municipal water
  • Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL): The highest permitted disinfectant level
  • Action Level (AL): The concentration that triggers treatment requirements
  • Locational Running Annual Average (LRAA): The average test results from specific monitoring locations over four quarters

Contaminants are measured in parts per million (ppm or mg/L) or parts per billion (ppb or µg/L). The USEPA also sets voluntary water quality goals that provide guidance for water management practices, including Maximum Contaminant Level Goals (MCLG) and Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goals (MRDLG).

Assessment results are available on the FDEP Source Water Assessment and Protection Program website or by contacting Ted Petrides, Director of Plant Operations at (954) 888-6000.
