The Windham Water Works sources its water from the Willimantic Reservoir, which is part of a 164 square mile watershed. Three major rivers - the Fenton, Mount Hope, and Natchaug - contribute significantly to this reservoir's supply.
The treatment facility, located at 174 Storrs Road in Mansfield Center, consists of a pump house and water treatment plant. The historic Windham Reservoir Dam and pump house, constructed in 1885, houses all pumping equipment, while the water treatment facility built in 1936 (with upgrades as recent as 1997) manages all chemical processing for potable water production.
On average, the facility treats 2.5 million gallons daily and maintains 84 miles of water mains connected to three storage tanks (one 4.5 million gallons and another 1.1 gallons) that supply the system. Residents can pay water/sewer bills at the Windham Town Hall's Revenue Collection office at 979 Main Street, Willimantic, where billing inquiries are also handled (860-465-3029).
For emergency services, staff are available 24/7 at 860-465-3086 (Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm) or through Willimantic Fire Dispatch at 860-465-3126 after regular hours.
