About Us
Water Hardness Information: Water hardness is measured by calcium and magnesium mineral concentration naturally present in your supply. In our service area, hardness levels range from 85 to 140 ppm, or approximately 5 to 8 grains per gallon.
Sodium Content: The sodium level averages approximately 13 ppm (or mg/L).
pH Levels: Water in our distribution system maintains an average pH of 6.1 units. For reference, a pH of 7.0 is neutral, with lower values being more acidic.
Fluoride Information: West Virginia American Water adds fluoride to approximately 0.69 ppm to support dental health.
Water Supply Sources: Your municipal water comes from surface water collected in three local reservoirs. Each reservoir is formed by a dam and can be used independently or in combination to meet system demands. Learn more about local water bodies at https://watersgeo.epa.gov/mywaterway.
Source Water Assessment: The WV Department of Health and Human Resources completed a mandatory source water assessment in April 2003 to meet Federal Safe Drinking Water Act requirements. The study evaluated the watershed drainage area and rated vulnerability to contamination as medium since the reservoirs are surface water bodies exposed to environmental factors. To obtain assessment details, contact DHHR at (304) 356-4298 or visit https://www.wvdhhr.org/oehs/eed/swap.
Community Water Protection: Safeguarding water at its source requires community-wide effort from utilities, businesses, residents, government agencies and community organizations. Everyone living and working in our watershed has a stake in maintaining clean water supplies.
