About Us
The Village of Roaming Shores received an unconditional License to Operate (LTO) its Public Water System (PWS) from Ohio EPA in 2017. This unconditional status indicates no pending water quality issues requiring resolution. We've prepared this report to inform consumers about our water quality.
Our water supply comes through a bulk contract with Aqua Ohio, which treats water drawn from Lake Erie. As a surface water source, Lake Erie requires extensive treatment before becoming potable. The treated water travels through over 1,550 miles of distribution system to reach homes.
The Village maintains an emergency backup connection with Rock Creek Village, though we used 0 gallons from this source in 2017. For information on Rock Creek's water quality, contact their village office at 440-563-3992.
Potential contamination sources in drinking water include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. Water can dissolve naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive material while picking up substances from animal presence or human activity.
Possible contaminants include:
- Microbial contaminants from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals from natural sources, urban runoff, industrial discharge, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
- Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants occurring naturally or resulting from oil/gas production
EPA assessments determined our source water has high susceptibility to contamination. EPA regulations limit contaminant levels in public water supplies to ensure safety, though some contaminants may reasonably be expected in any water supply. For information about contaminants and health effects, call the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).
