About Us
The Village of Ashwaubenon is proud to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report. This document aims to inform residents about the quality of water and services we provide daily. Our ongoing mission is to deliver safe, reliable water to our community. We're committed to continuously improving our water treatment processes and protecting our valuable water resources.
2017 marked another significant year for the Ashwaubenon Water Utility. Since 2006, our system has been operating with lake water purchased from the Green Bay Water Utility, and we're pleased to report this transition has been seamless. Additionally, the Utility continued testing and maintaining its four groundwater wells for emergency backup purposes.
This report details our water quality and explains what the results mean. We want our valued customers to be well-informed about their water utility. If you have questions or want to learn more, the Ashwaubenon Village Board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Ashwaubenon Village Hall, 2155 Holmgren Way. During these meetings, there's a dedicated "Comments from the Public" segment where residents can inquire about any subject.
The Ashwaubenon Water Utility routinely monitors for potential contaminants in your municipal water according to Federal and State regulations. This report presents our monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017. Our primary goal is to provide residents with the safest, highest quality water possible.

Appleton's history is intertwined with Lawrence University, as both developed simultaneously. The close relationship established in their early years continues to exist today. The first settlers in Appleton were fur traders seeking to work with Fox River Valley Indians. In 1835, Hippolyte Grignon built the White Heron to house his family and serve as both an inn and trading post.
With financial backing from Amos Lawrence, the Lawrence Institute was chartered in 1847. Samuel Appleton donated $10,000 to the newly founded college library, and in appreciation, his name was given to the community. Appleton was first incorporated as a town in 1853 (with John F. Johnston as the first resident town president) and later as a city in 1857 (with Amos Story as Mayor).
Among the 36 individuals who have served as the city's chief elected official, John Goodland, Jr. had the longest tenure with 18 years in office. Dorothy Johnson, Appleton's first female mayor, was elected in 1980 and served for several years. Timothy M. Hanna is the current mayor.
Education has always been a priority in Appleton. In 1850, Daniel Huntley taught in the first free state-supported school. St. Mary Catholic Church opened the first parochial school in 1864. The first four-year high school began operating in 1876 in the Hercules School, and kindergarten was introduced in 1898 at Lincoln School.
Population growth necessitated additional facilities. Today there are 24 public and 13 parochial schools. Lawrence University's 84-acre campus features 32 instructional, recreational, and administrative buildings, with 1,200 students from 45 states and 38 foreign countries, and a faculty of 114 professionals.
