The table below may contain unfamiliar terms. For clarity, we provide these definitions:
- Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): Highest allowable contaminant level in municipal water, set as close to MCLGs as possible using available technology.
- Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG): Contaminant level below which no known or expected health risks exist, providing a safety margin.
- Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL): Highest allowable disinfectant level, necessary for controlling microbial contaminants.
- Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goal (MRDLG): Disinfectant level below which no known or expected health risks exist.
- Action Level (AL): Contaminant concentration that triggers treatment or other requirements.
- Not Detected (ND): Substance not found in laboratory testing.
- Parts Per Million (ppm) or mg/L: One part analyte per million parts water by weight.
- Parts Per Billion (ppb) or μg/L: One part analyte per billion parts water.
