About Us
Infants and young children are typically more susceptible to lead in municipal water than the general population. Your home's lead levels may exceed neighboring properties due to differences in plumbing materials. If concerned about elevated lead content, consider testing your water and running taps for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before use. Additional information is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).
IS THERE A HEALTH RISK? While Avon's municipal water meets or exceeds all state and federal quality standards, certain individuals may have increased vulnerability to water contaminants. People with compromised immune systems—including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS, elderly residents, and infants—may face higher risks from infections. These individuals should consult healthcare providers regarding their drinking water consumption.
HOW TO GET MORE INFORMATION: Please contact Ed McCallie, Utilities Superintendent at 440-937-5740 with questions. The public is welcome to attend Avon City Council meetings held on the second and final Monday monthly at 7:30PM at Avon City Hall, 36080 Chester Road.

For more information on your drinking water, visit the U.S. CDC:
Avon City PWS Drinking Water Company and CDC- What are your hours? Currently Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. Emergency number for after-hours is 606-939-2753. Website: www.Cannonsburgwater.com
- Where are you located? 1606 Cannonsburg Road, Ashland, KY 41102. From Ashland traveling toward I-64, proceed to the traffic light past Super Wal-Mart (Super Quick on right, Members Credit Union on left). Turn left onto Cannonsburg Road and continue past Wal-Mart's side entrance for about two blocks. We're in a one-story brick building on the right with CANNONSBURG WATER DISTRICT signage visible from the street.
-
How can I pay my bill?
- Payments accepted at our office; after-hours night depository available
- Bank drafts can be arranged at no charge
- Credit/debit cards accepted with a nominal processing fee
- I don't have water service, what should I do? First, check for issues at your property: leaks, line breaks, regulator malfunction, etc. Verify with neighbors if they have service. Contact the Water District to report service interruption.
- How do I establish service? For previous customers, there's a connection fee payable at our office during registration. We'll need to photocopy your current State Driver's License or State ID. The application process takes just minutes to complete. You'll sign a work order authorizing account transfer to your name. You remain responsible until written notification to terminate service. Security deposits are required upon registration and cannot be billed. These include a water deposit and service fee. A portion may be refunded after one year or upon vacating the premises, whichever comes first. The service fee is non-refundable.
- I'm building a new home, how do I get water connected? First, obtain a "CONSTRUCTION PLUMBING PERMIT" from the Plumbing Inspector at the Boyd County Health Department. The inspector is available Mondays and Thursdays from 8:00am-9:30am at (606)-324-6530. After securing your permit, visit our office with a copy of the document to provide information for water tap installation, pay applicable fees, and schedule your connection.
- What should I do during a "boil water advisory"? These advisories indicate a potential contamination risk, not necessarily that water is unsafe. We notify customers through door-to-door flyers (for small areas), local media and newspaper announcements (for larger areas), our website, and sometimes by telephone. The Kentucky Division of Water receives notification, as do Health Departments when restaurants/schools/health facilities are affected. After repairs, lines are flushed and bacteriological samples are collected within 24 hours for laboratory testing according to government regulations. Advisories remain in effect until satisfactory test results are received and the Division of Water grants clearance. All break records, repairs, tests and results are maintained at our district office.
