Battle Ground Water Department
About Us
During summer months (June through September), Battle Ground municipal water customers consume nearly 3 million gallons daily - more than double the typical usage throughout the rest of the year. This dramatic difference highlights the significant volume of water used for outdoor purposes and underscores the need for proactive resource management.
To address this challenge, the city has implemented a voluntary Odd/Even Watering Program for all residential, commercial and public customers from June to September. The program guidelines are simple:
- Addresses ending in odd numbers: water on Saturday, Monday, Wednesday only
- Addresses ending in even numbers: water on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday only
- Friday: non-watering day for everyone
- Exceptions granted for vegetable gardens, newly planted lawns, and potted/hanging plants
"An odd/even water management program is straightforward to implement, saves approximately half-million gallons daily, and is essential for maintaining safe reservoir levels," explains Public Works Director Jeff Sawyer. Water resources are finite; during hot weather, community demand can easily exceed production capacity. The city operates eight wells - the maximum permitted under state regulations - drawing from the Troutdale and Sand & Gravel aquifers.
