About Us
Source Water Assessment: In 2017, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection conducted a comprehensive Source Water Evaluation of our facilities. This assessment identified potential contamination sources near our wells. For the 1A system, 3 potential contaminant sources were found with low susceptibility ratings, while the 2A system had 9 potential sources, also with low susceptibility levels.
The City of Hollywood, which supplies water to our 3A and 3B/C systems, was also evaluated by FDEP in 2017. Thirteen potential contamination sources were identified with low to moderate susceptibility ratings. Complete assessment results are available at the FDEP Source Water Assessment Protection System website (dep.state.fl.us/swap) or from the City of Hollywood Water Quality Department at (954) 921-3414.
Water Treatment Process:
- Softening: Groundwater initially undergoes treatment with lime and ferric chloride to reduce hardness and color.
- Fluoridation: Fluoride is added to enhance protection against tooth decay.
- Filtration: Further treatment removes remaining particulate matter from the softened water.
- Disinfection: The final step uses chloramines (chlorine and ammonia) with residual levels maintained throughout the distribution system to prevent microbial growth.
- Dewatering: Settled treatment solids are collected, thickened, and processed through vacuum filtration to remove excess water.
Monitoring: Broward County Water and Wastewater Services conducts over 15,000 tests annually in their NELAP-certified laboratory to meet national standards. Additionally, qualified water treatment operators perform more than 317,000 process control tests yearly to ensure water quality exceeds all Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.
