In 2017, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) conducted a Source Water Assessment of our water system to identify potential contamination sources near our wells. This assessment provides valuable information about facilities and activities that could affect our groundwater supplies used for public water.

The FDEP utilizes internal databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map relationships between potential contamination sources and public water intakes throughout Florida. Many of these facilities operate under strict regulations designed to protect both public health and the environment.

For our system, one potential contamination source was identified with a low susceptibility level. Assessment results are available on the FDEP Source Water Assessment and Protection Program website at www.fldep.dep.state.fl.us/swapp/ or by contacting Ted Petrides, Director of Plant Operations at (954) 888-6000.

Our water quality standards are established by the EPA and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and include:

  • Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): The highest level of a contaminant permitted in drinking water
  • Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL): The highest level of disinfectant allowed in water
  • Primary Drinking Water Standard: MCLs for contaminants affecting health
  • Action Level (AL): Contaminant concentration that triggers treatment requirements
  • Locational Running Annual Average (LRAA): Average test results from a specific monitoring location over four calendar quarters
