Certain individuals may be more vulnerable than the general population to specific microbial contaminants in tap water, particularly Cryptosporidium. This includes infants, elderly residents, and immunocompromised individuals such as those undergoing cancer chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people on steroid treatments, and those with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders.

It's advisable to consult with your healthcare provider about your tap water consumption. Additional guidelines for reducing Cryptosporidium infection risk are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

Elevated lead levels, if present, can cause serious health complications, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in municipal water typically comes from service lines and home plumbing materials, which are beyond our control. To minimize potential lead exposure, flush your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption when it has been sitting for several hours. If concerned, consider water testing. Information about lead in water, testing methods, and exposure reduction is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.Epa.Gov/safewater/lead.

WATER SOURCES: Municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.

Potential source water contaminants include:

• Microbial contaminants (viruses, bacteria) from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
• Inorganic contaminants (salts, metals) occurring naturally or resulting from urban runoff, wastewater discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
• Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
• Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organics, from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
• Radioactive contaminants occurring naturally or resulting from oil/gas production and mining

The City of Corinth uses Purchased Surface Water from Lake Lewisville. A Source Water Susceptibility Assessment for our supply is being updated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, describing potential contaminant sources based on human activities and natural conditions. ALL municipal water may contain some contaminants. When water meets federal standards, there may not be health benefits to purchasing bottled water or point-of-use devices. Tap water, including bottled water, can reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of certain contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Secondary Constituents: Many substances (including calcium, sodium, iron) commonly found in municipal water can affect taste, color, and odor. These secondary constituents are regulated by Texas, not the EPA, and don't present health concerns. Therefore, they aren't required in this report, though they may significantly impact water appearance and taste.
