To minimize potential lead exposure, flush taps for 30 seconds to 2 minutes after water has been sitting. Private testing is available for concerned residents.

The 2017 water loss audit showed approximately 9.05% system loss. Farmers Branch purchases water through an agreement with Dallas, which uses seven surface water sources: Trinity River's Elm Fork, Lakes Ray Roberts, Lewisville, Grapevine, Ray Hubbard, Tawakoni, and Fork. Dallas also holds water rights in Lake Palestine for future needs.

Monthly testing ensures the city's water distribution system—comprising pumps, storage facilities, and pipelines—meets all quality requirements while providing adequate water for both consumption and fire protection.
