Texas Water Utility Companies

The Town of Flower Mound is pleased to present the 2017 Annual Water Quality Report. Our mission is to fulfill residents' water needs by delivering the highest quality water available. We welcome public engagement through attending town meetings, calling 972.539.SERV, emailing publicworks@flower-mound.com, or visiting our website. For specific water quality inquiries, please call 972.874.6400.

Our Water Meets or Exceeds All Federal (EPA) Requirements

This report summarizes the quality of water we provide to our customers, using data from the most recent EPA-mandated tests. Where does our water come from? Flower Mound (PWS #0610023) purchased 4,880,788,000 gallons of treated water from Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) and Upper Trinity Regional Water District (RWD). All water is surface-sourced from lakes and rivers, primarily Lake Lewisville, but also Lake Ray Hubbard and Lake Tawakoni.

The TCEQ Source Water Susceptibility report details potential contaminants that may contact our water source due to human activities and natural conditions. For more information about source water assessments and protection efforts, please call 972.874.6400.

Additional Water Components

Components like calcium, sodium, and iron naturally occur in water at varying concentrations and can affect taste, color, and odor. Texas regulates these secondary components but doesn't consider them health concerns. While not included in this report, monthly test results are available upon request.

All Water Contains Some Contaminants

When water meets federal standards, there may be no health-based benefits to purchasing bottled water or point-of-use devices. All water, including bottled water, reasonably contains at least small amounts of contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800.426.4791.

Cryptosporidium Information

Cryptosporidium is a microscopic intestinal parasite naturally found in the environment. While filtration removes most Cryptosporidium, even the most advanced filtration methods cannot guarantee 100% removal. Our water providers regularly test both treated and untreated water, finding it only in untreated sources (lakes and rivers). Most people with healthy immune systems overcome effects within weeks, but immunocompromised individuals face greater risks. We encourage at-risk individuals to consult their doctors about appropriate precautions.

Water Quality Monitoring Results

The following tables list all federally regulated or monitored substances found in your water. EPA requires water systems to test up to 80 constituents. As shown, Flower Mound's water met or exceeded all established requirements. Tables identify contaminants detected during 2017 or the most recent testing period.

Flower Mound offers unique services, innovative business trends, nationally acclaimed community events, and exceptional dining options. Our town combines the vibrant energy and commercial opportunities of a larger city while maintaining small-town accessibility and friendliness. Our thoughtfully engineered growth supports both personal and professional development.

Located in what was once called Peters Colony, the area was settled as early as 1846 when Preston Witt built a home on White Rock Creek. The community wasn't named Flower Mound until 1902, after Addison Robertson who served as the second postmaster from 1908-1916.

The first industry arrived in 1902 when the Pistole brothers constructed a cotton gin on Addison Road near the railroad. This facility became the Plano Cotton Oil Mill in 1904 and later the Farmers Gin of Addison in 1919. The historic Addison School Building on Belt Line Road was built in 1914 and now houses a local restaurant after closing as a school in 1964.

The Town of Flower Mound was incorporated on June 15, 1953, under an aldermanic form of government and was renamed from "City of Addison" to "Town of Addison" in 1982. The 1975 approval of liquor by the drink significantly contributed to business and restaurant growth. Today, Flower Mound's dining establishments can collectively seat over 20,000 patrons simultaneously.

The town built its first park in 1978 and launched an ambitious beautification program by 1980. Currently, Flower Mound maintains 118 acres of parks, each uniquely designed and meticulously landscaped, ranking among the finest in Texas.
