How do I get started with recycling appliances?

  1. Contact Utilities to schedule an appointment for recycling your old refrigerator or freezer.
  2. Prepare the appliance for pickup by ensuring it's clean and accessible.
  3. Be present during the scheduled pickup time to facilitate the process.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who can participate in the recycling program?

All Utilities electric customers with qualifying refrigerators or freezers are eligible to participate in our recycling initiative.

Is a new appliance purchase required for the rebate?

No purchase is necessary, though if you do buy a new unit, look for ENERGY STAR® certification to reduce your utility bills.

Will you collect non-functioning refrigerators?

Our program focuses on removing operational energy-consuming appliances. For non-working units, please contact the Larimer County Landfill for proper disposal information.

What defines an "old" refrigerator?

Pre-1989 models use up to four times more energy than newer models. Federal efficiency standards have improved in 1989, 1993, 2001, 2004, 2008, and 2011, making newer appliances progressively more efficient.

Why does the utility offer recycling payments?

Older refrigeration units consume substantial electricity. Our program helps reduce overall energy consumption, lowers your bills, and decreases emissions from power generation sources.
