Important Notice for vulnerable residents: Seniors, infants, cancer patients, individuals with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders may be more susceptible to certain contaminants in tap water, particularly Cryptosporidium. If you fall into these categories, please consult your healthcare provider about water consumption guidelines.

The data presented shows contaminant levels detected in La Porte's water supply. No maximum contaminant levels were exceeded, and no violations of water quality standards occurred. All information comes from the most recent mandatory testing conducted under regulatory requirements.

La Porte's water is sourced from several groundwater wells in the Gulf Coast Water Aquifer, the City of Houston Southeast Water Purification Plant, and the Trinity River. Some contaminants found in water may affect taste, color, or odor without necessarily posing health risks. For questions about water quality characteristics, contact the La Porte Public Works Department.

All municipal water, including bottled varieties, reasonably contains small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.

In our water loss audit submitted to the Texas Water Development Board (January-December 2017), our system lost approximately 161.76 million gallons through leaks and unmetered uses. Please help conserve by promptly reporting all water leaks!

The TCEQ has assessed our source waters, finding some sources susceptible to certain contaminants. Testing requirements are based on this susceptibility assessment. Additional information about source water protection is available at www.epa.gov/safewater/protect or through the Public Works Department at (281) 471-9650 or www.laportetx.gov.

City of La Porte Municipal Water Report Information

La Porte, Texas, the oldest incorporated town in eastern Harris County, was established on August 10, 1892. The town began as a land development project by investors from Denver, Colorado. While initially promoted as ideal for agriculture, settlers soon discovered that winter temperatures were too harsh for citrus orchards and the black gumbo soil unsuitable for farming.

The community gained recognition as home to Sylvan Beach Park and functioned primarily as a resort destination until World War II. A series of storms eventually ended Sylvan Beach's era as a popular retreat. The arrival of World War II, NASA, and the Bayport Channel gradually transformed La Porte into a residential community supporting nearby industry.

La Porte sits primarily on the Johnson Hunter grant of 1824 and the Enoch Brinson grant from the same year, with smaller portions developed on the David Harris and Pearsall grants. I.R. Holmes, recognizing the potential for a town at Buffalo Bayou's mouth, visited Houston in early July 1890 and toured Morgan's Point with Captain Frederick Leon Allien, who was establishing the town of Bayview.

Upon returning to Denver, Holmes partnered with the York brothers to form the Interior Land and Immigration Company. Together with Tom Lee, an experienced railroad professional, they created the La Porte Land and Town Company and acquired several hundred acres from Allien. After closer examination, they decided to reserve the Morgan's Point area for wharves and warehouses while moving the town site inland, purchasing over 1,000 acres from Dr. John Beazley in what is now La Porte.
