About Us
Certain populations may face higher health risks from microbial contaminants like Cryptosporidium in municipal water. This includes infants, elderly individuals, and those with compromised immune systems - such as people undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals on steroid treatments, and those with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders.
If you belong to any of these vulnerable groups, consult your healthcare provider about your municipal water consumption. For additional guidance on reducing Cryptosporidium infection risks, contact the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.
This report summarizes the quality of water provided to Midlothian residents, based on the most recent EPA-required testing. We aim to help you understand what's in your municipal water supply.
Municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal or human activities. Potential contaminants include:
- Microbial contaminants (viruses, bacteria) from sewage plants, septic systems, agriculture, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants (salts, metals) occurring naturally or from urban runoff, wastewater discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
- Organic chemical contaminants (synthetic and volatile compounds) from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, runoff, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants occurring naturally or from oil/gas production and mining
The City of Midlothian draws its water from surface water in Joe Pool, Richland Chambers, and Cedar Creek Reservoirs. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) assessed our source water and found some sources vulnerable to certain contaminants. Our sampling requirements are based on this susceptibility and previous data. For more information about source water tests and protection efforts, contact the Midlothian Water Treatment Plant at 972-775-6663 or visit Texas Drinking Water Watch at https://www.Tceq.Texas.Gov/gis/swaview.
The State of Texas requires retail water suppliers serving over 3,300 connections to submit an annual Water Loss Audit to the Texas Water Development Board. For January-December 2017, Midlothian produced 2,401,248,280 gallons of retail treated water, with water loss of 66,714,862 gallons (approximately 8.19%). This represents a 4% reduction in water loss from the previous year, as reported to the Texas Water Development Board. For questions about the water audit, please contact Tim Walker, Plant Manager at 972-775-6663.
When municipal water meets federal standards, there's no health advantage to purchasing bottled water or point-of-use devices. All municipal water, including bottled varieties, can contain small amounts of contaminants, but this doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Some contaminants may affect taste, odor, or color without posing health concerns. For questions about water taste, odor, or color, contact the water treatment plant at 972-775-6663.

City of Midlothian Municipal Water Company and EPACity of Midlothian Municipal Water Report Information
Midlothian is a growing rural community with over 31,000 residents spread across 64 square miles, located approximately 25 miles south of Dallas in Ellis County. The city has evolved rapidly while maintaining essential services for its expanding population.
The Midlothian Fire Department, established in 1906, protects more than 40,000 people across a 115 square mile response area. Starting as an all-volunteer force, it has transitioned to a fully professional department operating from three fire stations plus an administrative building. The department employs 66 members, including 60 career firefighters organized into three 24-hour shifts with Battalion Chiefs, Captains, Driver/Engineers, and Firefighter/Paramedics – all operations staff are certified paramedics.
The department's equipment includes three MICU ambulances, three paramedic engine companies, a 100-foot aerial platform truck, three brush trucks, support vehicles, and a restored 1918 Model T Ford/Howe antique fire engine. They respond to over 3,500 calls annually throughout Midlothian and Ellis County Emergency Services District #2, which includes the surrounding unincorporated areas with approximately 9,000 residents.
The service area encompasses primarily residential neighborhoods but also includes numerous commercial and industrial facilities: apartment complexes, cement manufacturing plants, steel manufacturing, LNG generation, electrical generation, large distribution warehouses, retail centers, a convention center, hotels, schools, public water treatment plants, major highways (designated as hurricane evacuation routes), railways, pipelines, hazardous material storage facilities, a foreign trade zone, wildland areas, and the only airport in Ellis County accepting commercial aircraft.
Midlothian Fire Department participates in mutual aid agreements through the Ellis Dallas Unified Cooperative Team (E.D.U.C.T.) and provides contracted MICU ambulance service to the 3,600 residents of Ovilla. Their medical staff operate under the direction of Dr. Ketan Trivedi at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. The department maintains an ISO Protection Class rating of "2."
