Understanding Water Quality in Morgan Hill
In 1991, the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) implemented the Lead and Copper Rule requiring Morgan Hill, like all cities, to conduct regular testing. Our public water system has maintained levels below detection for lead and copper, though these elements may potentially leach from residential plumbing systems.
Morgan Hill operates on a three-year testing cycle for lead and copper monitoring. Our 2015 sampling results remained below National Action Levels, with the next scheduled testing in 2018. Elevated lead levels can pose serious health risks, particularly for pregnant women and young children.
Lead in tap water primarily comes from service line materials and home plumbing components. While the City provides high-quality water, we cannot control all plumbing materials in homes. To reduce potential lead exposure, consider flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes after water has been sitting for several hours.
The City of Morgan Hill remains committed to providing safe, reliable water that meets or exceeds Federal and State regulations. In 2017, we successfully met all water quality standards without violations.
