City of Redmond Water System
About Us
An extensive underground aquifer lies east of the Sammamish River. For six decades, this aquifer has supplied 35-40% of Redmond's tap water. In 2017, the city pumped over 1 billion gallons through this water source. This aquifer is considered highly vulnerable to contamination due to its shallow depth.
Groundwater Protection
In 2003, Redmond established a Wellhead Protection System to safeguard groundwater from contamination and depletion. The program is responsible for:
- Collecting data on hazardous materials
- Visiting local businesses to identify and eliminate potential pollution sources
- Implementing preventative measures to protect this vital water resource
