About Us
We are proud to present our 2017 Annual Water Quality Report to you. This document provides insights about the high-quality water and services we deliver to your home daily. Our primary goal is to provide you with safe and dependable municipal water. We want you to understand our ongoing efforts to enhance water treatment processes and protect our valuable water sources.
Pasco County Utilities consistently monitors for contaminants in your tap water in accordance with Federal and State regulations. Unless otherwise noted, this report presents findings from January 1 through December 31, 2017. Data collected prior to January 1, 2017, comes from the most recent testing conducted under applicable laws and regulations.
Since certain contaminant concentrations typically remain stable year to year, some of our data (such as for organic contaminants) may be more than a year old while still being representative of current conditions.
Municipal water sources include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
Potential source water contaminants include:
• Microbial contaminants (viruses, bacteria) from sewage plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, wildlife
• Inorganic contaminants (salts, metals) from urban runoff, wastewater discharges, oil/gas production, mining, farming
• Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, residential uses
• Organic chemical contaminants from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, runoff, septic systems
• Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from oil/gas production and mining
Our water supply comes from groundwater drawn from one deep well in Pasco County, which taps the Floridan Aquifer. We add chlorine for disinfection purposes. In 2017, the Department of Environmental Protection completed a Source Water Assessment of our system, finding no potential contamination sources for the well.
