About Us
Efficient water usage benefits our environment, community health, and local economy by improving water quality, supporting aquatic ecosystems, and preserving our vital water resources. West Sound Utility District collaborates with the Department of Health to promote conservation through establishing Water Use Efficiency goals and implementing action plans to achieve them.
These goals were established during public hearings and undergo annual evaluation to track progress:
- Goal: Maintain distribution system leakage below 10% of total production on a 3-year average. Progress: Leakage from 2014-2017 was 6.4% of total production.
- Goal: Keep water consumption per equivalent residential unit (ERU) under 230 gallons daily. Progress: 2017 consumption averaged 168 gallons per ERU daily.
- Goal: Educate ratepayers about water conservation importance. Progress: We communicate through newsletters, billing messages, and our website.
District staff participates in the annual Water Festival and maintains a WaterPAK booth at the Kitsap County Fair. Through these initiatives and our aggressive leak detection program, we've conserved approximately 200 million gallons between 2013-2017. We remain committed to responsibly managing this precious natural resource and providing our customers with high-quality drinking water that meets all regulatory standards.
