About Us
The Integrated Resource Strategy (IRP) helps our community manage a resilient portfolio of water supplies to meet current and future needs. The Green River serves as our primary municipal water source, though this supply faces occasional limitations due to:
- Seasonal weather patterns
- Environmental commitments
- Required minimum flows for ecological health
Groundwater typically represents only 5% of our supply annually, but during drought conditions, our wells can provide up to 50% of summer water requirements. Additional challenges like climate change, evolving water regulations, and population growth also impact our resources.
The IRP provides essential planning tools, including the Water Yield, Source and Demand Unit model, which projects water availability decades ahead. This helps us prepare for potential supply constraints and drought conditions. The plan examines three scenarios with different assumptions about our water future, includes comprehensive groundwater system analysis, and evaluates our community's conservation programs.
Community input is vital to our planning process. A diverse Public Advisory Committee has provided valuable feedback throughout this project, helping us raise awareness and gather information for policy decisions. The updated IRP, publishing in 2018, will outline recommendations for managing our water assets cost-effectively and environmentally responsibly, guiding critical decisions about maintaining groundwater reserves.
