About Us
Protecting your public water system is our priority. Installing plumbing that adheres to code requirements typically provides adequate protection for your home's domestic water system against contamination. However, many businesses are required to install appropriate backflow prevention devices based on potential hazard levels.
To determine if a backflow assembly is needed to protect your water connection from the public system, please contact the City of Longview Utility Department at 360-442-5700 for an evaluation.
Important Information About Lead in Water
Pregnant women and young children are typically more vulnerable to lead exposure than the general population. Your home may have higher lead levels than others in the community due to materials used in your plumbing. The City of Longview Utility Division provides water but cannot control materials used in private plumbing components.
When water sits unused for several hours, you can reduce potential lead exposure by running your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. You may also consider having your water tested by a certified laboratory. More information is available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 or www.epa.gov/lead.
