Lakehaven Utility District
About Us
In 2017, Lakehaven Water & Sewer District delivered 78% of residential water through the Regional Water Supply Program (RWSS), previously known as the Second Supply Project (SSP). This water originates from the protected Green River watershed in the Cascade Mountain foothills of southern King County.
The RWSS occasionally supplements its supply with water from wells located along the North Fork of the Green River, which are also within the protected watershed area. Water from the Green River watershed is diverted downstream of Howard Hanson Dam to the Green Water Filtration Facility for treatment and filtration before traveling through a 34-mile pipeline.
This infrastructure was collaboratively built by Lakehaven Water & Sewer District, Tacoma, Kent, and Covington Water District. Tacoma Water manages the RWSS operations, including quality monitoring, treatment, and maintenance in partnership with other districts.
The RWSS provides an interruptible water source that supplements Lakehaven's groundwater supply, though availability may be affected by drought conditions, low river flow, or water quality issues. Lakehaven continues utilizing RWSS water when available to better manage resources and reduce demand on existing groundwater systems.
