Washington Water Utility Companies

Population growth, shifting climate patterns and aging infrastructure all impact current and future water demands and delivery capabilities. To maintain water quality and reliability, Seattle must continue making strategic investments in its water system, which serves approximately 1.4 million residents throughout the Puget Sound region.

Our resources include two protected watersheds, advanced treatment facilities, covered storage reservoirs, and sufficient capacity for current and future needs. However, like all critical utility infrastructure, our water system requires careful planning and management—from the mountain watersheds where water originates to the household taps where it's consumed.

The 2019 Water System Plan outlines how the utility will meet demand while maintaining quality standards and efficiently preserving the entire water distribution network. Learn more at Seattle.gov/util/watersystemplan.
