About Us
Why Did I Receive This Report? The 1996 amendment to the Safe Drinking Water Act requires water utilities to annually inform customers about their water quality. The regulation specifies distribution methods and required information. Water providers must make reasonable efforts to distribute this report to Temple residents, ensuring they're informed about the quality of municipal water supplied by the City's water system.
For questions about this report, please contact the City's Water Treatment Plant at (254) 298-5940. To participate in public discussions, City Council meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. at Temple's City Hall, 2 N. Main Street. All meetings are open to the public.

Municipal water sources (both tap & bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive material, and can pick up substances from animal or human activities. About Temple's History and Development
In 1881, Jonathan Ewing Moore sold 181 acres at $27 per acre to the railroad – an investment that would shape Temple's future. The Santa Fe Railway needed a central junction for its expanding Texas rail network. On June 29, 1881, prospective buyers arrived by train from five different cities for a land auction that featured a celebratory barbecue in true Texas tradition.
Named after chief engineer Bernard M. Temple who oversaw the Bell County track construction, the new town quickly developed around the railway. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway became a major employer and established their railway hospital in 1891.
In 1892, two visionary physicians – Dr. Arthur Carroll Scott and Dr. Raleigh R. White, Jr. – arrived to work at the hospital. Seeing a need for broader community healthcare, they opened Temple Sanitarium in 1904, which evolved into today's Baylor Scott and White Health system – one of the fastest-growing healthcare networks of the 20th century.
Temple continues this legacy of innovation and enterprise. Major corporations like McLane Company and Wilsonart International have established their world headquarters here. Baylor Scott and White Health continues expanding with multi-million dollar facilities and an educational partnership with Texas A&M University Health Science Center.
Today, Temple enjoys its position as the demographic center of Texas, with major cities like Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio all within three hours' drive. This central location means 84% of Texas's population lives within three hours of Temple city limits.
